Thompson Technician Matt Mullis Named 2022 IMTA Maintenance Professional of the Year

Sep. 20 2022 Announcements By Erica Bellach

No trucking awards program would be complete without recognizing the extremely important segment of truck maintenance. Ensuring that every truck on the road is safe and properly maintained is a vitally important part of the overall safety. As trucks have continued to become more and more sophisticated, so has the maintenance professional that is responsible for maintaining these vehicles. The IMTA felt that it is critically important that we recognize the men and women that have dedicated their life to this profession. Being a maintenance professional is an extremely mentally and physically demanding job... and far too often, the role can be overlooked or minimized.

This year's group of nominees were a very high-performing group. Through their work ethic and desire to be the very best they can be, they have defined what it means to be an award-winning maintenance professional. In today's quickly changing world, being and outstanding performer requires great dedication, commitment initiative, and a tremendous desire to be the very best. Matt Mullis exhibits all of these qualities and so much more and we are so proud that he was selected for this prestigious, state-wide award! His nomination submission below:

"Everyone will talk about their techs being efficient, the best in their location and overall, the best tech they have. With the stats that Matt Mullis has, that’s only scratching the surface. Yes, we can talk about how he runs an average 112- 123% efficiency, has never had a comeback and goes above and beyond for his customers but I want to focus on the dedication he has to our company. Even with all of the work and effort he does for us, he still manages to join forces, lead by example, coach, turn other locations around and be everyone’s “go to.”

Joining forces goes a long way with our industry. There’s the continuous battle our industry has about “parts vs service” but Matt bridges that gap and helps both parties. When putting in parts requests, he looks up his own part numbers and sends that in all together. The parts department has all newer employees and to make things a lot easier for them, in their new role, is to go the extra mile and make a difference.

He likes the fact that he sees his whole project through. Looking up his own parts, maintaining incredible stats and finishing trucks correctly. He takes pride in his work, so if the part was ordered incorrectly, it’s on him. He shows us how to take pride in our work and see his whole work through. Diagnosis, to parts look up/ order, to the actual repair, to thoroughly cleaning his workstation, Matt is the face of Up Time.

Other employees and other locations look up to him for his skill and wiliness to improve. No job is too big or complicated. Others shadow him to learn how he effectively manages his time and perfects his skill. He’s a wealth of knowledge and spreads it like a virus. While maintaining his incredible stats, he still encourages others to seek him out for any questions needed. He has built up such a team around him and everyone has the up most respect for him. An incredible team player.

Matt spends his free time hanging out with his family, playing golf and socializing with his friends and coworkers. He wastes no time being the “go to” guy for his friends and family and doesn’t stop once he walks through our doors. By coming in three hours early, staying three hours late or even coming in on weekends, he wants to take care of our customers. He’s incredible in every aspect of himself and I truly believe that he is more than deserving of this award. Our location and company are truly honored to have him working for us."

As a result of this award, Matt Mullis received $1,000 and a commemorative award. Great job, Matt! Keep up the good work!
