Assistant Sales Manager (Davenport)

The Asst Sales Manager will work closely with Sales Manager to learn job requirements, hire and train sales team, and eventually moving into Sales Manager position. Responsible for planning, implementing and directing the sales activities of Thompson, Truck & Trailer to achieve sales objectives.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages and directs a sales force to achieve monthly sales and profit goals.
  • Designs and recommends sales programs and sets short- and long-term sales strategies.
  • Evaluates and implements appropriate new sales techniques to increase the department's sales volume.
  • May recommend product or service enhancements to improve customer satisfaction and sales potential.
  • Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Acts as advisor to sales team regarding projects, tasks, and operations.
  • Establish and maintain OEM relationships
  • Conduct sales meetings (in person and conference call)
  • Develop programs to move stock inventory
  • Meet OEM sales plan by vehicle center
  • Review salesperson call log

 

Education & Experience Required:

  • May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty and 3-5 years management experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Performs a variety of complex tasks.
  •  Leads and directs the work of others.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Trailer Parts Sales Representative (Davenport)

The Trailer Parts Sales Representative is responsible for selling products or services through the achievement of opportunity-based sales quotas.  The Trailer Parts Sales Representative will reach business targets through effective management of designated territories and physical visits to customer sites. This individual will also develop ongoing, profitable relationships with customers and continually maintain a professional image of Thompson Truck & Trailer, Inc.  Integrity, passion, and in-person presentational skills are essential for this role.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Penetrate all targeted accounts and radiate sales from within client base
  • Overcome objections of prospective customers
  • Emphasize product/service features and benefits, quote prices, discuss credit terms, and prepare sales order forms and/or reports
  • Build and foster a network of referrals to create new opportunities for revenue growth
  • Generate and develop new customer accounts to increase revenue, by cold-calling if necessary
  • Ensure follow-up by calls-to-action dates, complete profile information, sources and so on. Consistently enter all calls in Arcadium CRM.
  • Always maintain professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to portray Thompson Truck & Trailer, Inc. in a positive manner
  • Actively manage call schedule to adequately cover assigned territory in a time-efficient manner
  • Maintain accurate records, including sales call reports, expense reimbursement forms, billing invoices, and other documentation
  • Build and maintain ongoing awareness of new products and services, competitor activities, and other research.
  • Give assistance to parts room where needed.

 

Education & Experience Required:

  • Knowledge of Trailer/Truck parts required. Some sales experience.

The Technician will be responsible for preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing engines, alignments, suspension, hydraulics, transmissions and electrical systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for diesel engines, transmissions, brake systems, electrical trouble shooting, steering and cooling systems.
  • Keeps track of the maintenance work on the vehicles
  • Ensures services provided are in compliance with safety procedures.

Education & Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Vocational or Technical certification preferred
  • Requires 1-2 years of automotive or diesel experience preferred
  • Working knowledge in the use of hand tools required
  • A valid driver’s license is required, and, must either possess a CDL or have the ability to obtain CDL license required

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic computer skills preferred for data entry into maintenance system
  • Works under general supervision
  • Must have a positive attitude and willingness to grow in position

 

Cedar Rapids (Body Shop Technicians – 2nd Shift Opportunities)

The Body Shop Technician will be responsible for providing timely, quality, and cost effective repair and maintenance on customer vehicles.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform initial teardown of trucks, thoroughly inspect trucks, make note of any missing parts or labor, and notify manager immediately
  • Responsible for all repairs assigned and listed on the work order, including any special notes or promises from the customer
  • Ensures services provided are in compliance with safety procedures
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and neat work area

 

Education & Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must possess necessary tools to perform assigned task
  • Vocational or Technical certification preferred
  • Requires 1-2 years of automotive or truck experience preferred
  • A valid driver’s license is required, and, must either possess a CDL or have the ability to obtain CDL license required

Waterloo

The Service Manager is responsible for managing service operations within the dealership to maximize return on investment by optimizing Service Department processes to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction.  Grows profitable service labor sales and exercises disciplined expense control.  Attracts, retains, and effectively engages department personnel.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops, communicates, enforces and monitors effective Service Department processes to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction
  • Creates annual Service Department goals and budget, in alignment with the organization’s financial and operational objectives
  • Submits all service warranty and Product Improvement Program claims within the required timeframe to receive maximum credit
  • Schedules and assigns jobs and work areas to employees in the Service Department according to their skills and knowledge
  • Reviews work orders for completeness and accuracy prior to customer billing
  • Ensures all departmental tools, equipment, and vehicles are in good working order
  • Work with HR Depart to Manage recruiting, staffing and employee development activities employees reporting to this position

 

Education & Experience Required:

  • 3 years of experience in retail management or diesel repair

 

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • 3+ years of experience in Service Department operations (retail management or diesel repair)
  • Ability to use standard desktop load applications such as Microsoft Office and internet functions
  • Ability to write and speak effectively to individuals and groups
  • Familiar with Thompson Truck & Trailer, Inc. and competitive products
  • Basic understanding of financial principles relative to Service Department operations

The Technician will be responsible for preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing trailers.

  • Responsible for all types of trailer repair. Preventative maintenance, suspension, brakes, hydraulic, electrical and body work.
  • Keeps track of the maintenance work on the vehicles
  • Ensures services provided are in compliance with safety procedures.

 

Education & Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Vocational or Technical certification preferred
  • Requires 1-2 years of mechanical experience preferred
  • Working knowledge in the use of hand tools required
  • A valid driver’s license is required, and, must either possess a CDL or have the ability to obtain CDL license required

Foreman

Cedar Rapids (2nd Shift working foreman); CR Body Shop (2nd Shift working foreman); Davenport (1st Shift 3 days during week along with Sat/Sun) Davenport Trailer (2nd shift working Foreman)

 

The Foreman is responsible for directly supervising and coordinating activities of the dealership employees.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily maintenance and repair operations in accordance with established cost and quality standards.
  • Daily duties include scheduling, monitoring, and controlling all maintenance/repair jobs while supervising and coordinating the activities of shop employees.
  • There will be some hands on work but the majority of the time will be working in supervisory capacity.

 

Education & Experience Required:

  • The ideal mechanic will have a solid technical background in diesel maintenance and previous experience in a shop foreman role. 
  • Foreman must possess excellent supervisory, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  •  Working knowledge of related scheduling and warranty processes is preferred for this position.
  • A valid driver’s license is required, and, must either possess a CDL or have the ability to obtain CDL license required

  • Diesel truck repair experience
