Dennis Thompson began his career at the International affiliated truck dealership in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1976 as a mechanic’s helper. Over the next 20 years, he progressed through the Company’s management. In 1998, Dennis purchased Hawkeye International Trucks, later renaming the business Thompson Truck & Trailer, with locations in Cedar Rapids, Davenport and Waterloo, Iowa. Since acquiring the International affiliated truck dealerships, he has taken pride on providing exemplary customer service and becoming “Partners for the Long Haul.”
Since Dennis purchased the business in 1998, the Company has continued to invest and expand its footprint and product offerings:
2000 – Moved Davenport, Iowa dealership from West River Drive to its current location at exit 292 off Interstate 80
2003 – Purchased Riverside Tractor Trailer, a full service truck dealership, Utility trailer dealership and Goodyear tire franchise in Dubuque, Iowa
2005 – Bought the International associated truck dealer in Decorah, Iowa
2007 – Opened a new full service truck dealership in Sterling, Illinois
2008 – Opened a full service Utility trailer dealership in Davenport, Iowa
2013 – Hawkeye International Trucks renamed Thompson Truck & Trailer, Inc.
2013 – Travis Thompson named president of Thompson Truck & Trailer, Inc. and Thompson Idealease. Dennis Thompson named Chairman & CEO of Thompson Truck & Trailer, Inc. and Thompson Idealease
2015 – Sold Utility Trailer dealerships
2015 – Thompson breaks ground on a new full service truck dealership in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with an expected relocation and grand opening in Winter 2016
2016 – Dennis Thompson nominated for American Truck Dealers Truck Dealer of the Year
